Which Gold Nail Polish Looks Like Real Gold?

I want gold nail polish that looks like gold jewelry.

I tried Suzi’s Slinging Mezcal by OPI but it looked mustardy and too light on me.

What’s the best gold nail polish that looks rich and warm with a good shine?

If Slinging Mezcal came out mustardy on you, maybe try a chrome-style gold instead of a creamy or shimmer one. Chromes reflect light, so they look a lot more like actual metal on the nail. This one is an opaque chrome and dries fast. For a richer, warmer look, go for golds described as ‘antique’ or ‘24k’ and skip anything pale or champagne.

A glossy top coat over a metallic can also add a shine and I think you really need that with any polish if you want that look.

OPI’s winter and holiday collections are worth a look. They usually have a richer metallic gold sitting next to the silvers. Avoid anything labeled “champagne” or “pale gold”. Look for shades that resemble an old gold ring in the bottle and add a glossy top coat on top. Metallics show those a lot.

Essie Good as Gold and Zoya Ziv are the two that look like jewelry to me. Warm yellow gold, foil finish, and Ziv is smoother, closer to 18k than 24k.

Slinging Mezcal’s sparkle sits in a sheer yellowish jelly, so it goes mustard on most skin tones. Orly Luxe is worth a look if you want something richer and a little darker.

ILNP Empire, two thin coats and it reads like warm 18k instead of glitter. Doesn’t go pale or mustardy either.

Skip black underneath though, it tends to make gold look greenish.
