Best Polish for Dark Skin Tones?

I’m trying to find nail polish recommendations that look good on dark skin, both toes and fingers.w Moving on from my drugstore stash and want to try some indie/cult brands. Open to professional brands too if they don’t cost a fortune.

Most swatches I find are on lighter skin. So I would love to hear which shades actually show up well on deeper complexions: reds, corals, nudes, moody fall colors, bright summer picks- whatever you’re into.

Pear Nova, they photograph polish on deeper skin tones. Berry Jane is a nice berry-wine.

On nudes I’d skip trying to find an exact skin match, a caramel or terracotta that’s clearly a shade off looks more intentional than an almost-match.

Undertone matters more than color family. Cool pastels go chalky or ashy and sheer milky nudes can read gray on darker skin, which is why Ballet Slippers gets so much hate in threads like this.

For nudes, Mented Cosmetics and People of Color Beauty both do ones that match deeper skin.

Toes can take way more contrast. China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy looks radioactive in the bottle and glows on deeper skin in the sun.

On coral lean toward the orange side, anything with a real orange or brick base tends to look expensive on us. And OPI and Essie are technically pro lines, so beauty supply stores often have them well under retail.

Saturated jewel tones, blackened colors, metallics and chromes all hold up well on deeper skin. ILNP is a good first indie stop, Eclipse is a black-to-red multichrome.

Zoya Louise is a rich chocolate that works as a true deep nude.

You’ve sold me on Flip Flop Fantasy for toes. That glowing in the sun description did it. Does it get that bright on its own, or do you need a white base underneath?

Ballet Slippers went straight gray on me, so the undertone thing is real and I wish I’d known before buying it.

Yeah, I spent ages chasing my exact shade once and it just looked like I forgot to paint my nails, so the terracotta idea makes sense to me.

Lavender and mint pastels did the same thing to me as Ballet Slippers. Fine in the bottle, then flat and ashy within a day of wear, the milky base sits on top of the nail instead of blending with the skin around it.

Building a cool pastel to full opacity over a slightly warmer base helps if you want one anyway. Mented nudes run warm though, so anyone with a cooler undertone might find them a bit orange.
