I had two nails snap so had no choice but to file my nails down short again.
I’m torn between going bold to make a statement or keeping it soft and milky to make them look longer.

Sheer and close to your skin tone works best, so milky pink or a soft nude. They blur the line where the nail ends and the finger starts, which makes them look longer.
A dark cream like deep burgundy or navy looks sharp on short nails, as long as you leave a hair of a gap at the sidewalls so the color doesn’t swallow the whole nail bed. Do the milky pink on most fingers and put one bold accent on the ring finger. Since two already snapped, keep a nail hardener on under whatever color you pick. Saturated color. Short nails carry it well. Classic red, raspberry, warm coral or even a fine shimmer metallic.
Pick whatever undertone suits your skin. Blue-red or berry if you’re cool, tomato red or coral if you’re warm.
Keep it glossy too… if you’ve had a couple of snaps though, a subtle shimmer helps hide any unevenness while they grow back.
Taupe, mushroom, soft caramel, dusty rose. Warm mid-tones basically, and I skip bright white and icy shades right after a break because they show every ridge from filing.
The shimmer tip is so real, I had two snaps last month and a fine gold shimmer basically made the uneven lengths disappear while they grew out.
That ridge spotlight after a break gets me every time. Do the warmer shades hide the unevenness better in a full coverage cream or something a little sheer?
Gonna split hairs on the shimmer thing. Fine shimmer in a jelly base, it softens everything and you can’t tell where a nail got filed down after a break.
A true metallic, the foil-y mirror type, does the opposite. Every ridge and flat spot from filing shows up like a dent in a car door.
A thick topcoat does half the leveling work, and a saturated cream under it looks sharp on short nails. Tomato red with a glassy top on short nails is my favorite look.
I used to paint deep navy edge to edge on short nails and it looked like a little dark square sitting on my finger. Leaving a sliver of bare nail on each side made the nail look narrower and longer.
