The foil method works better for me. Most of the product comes off in around 10 to 20 minutes, though after scraping with an orangewood stick I usually need a second, shorter soak (maybe 5 to 10 minutes). I wrap one hand at a time so I can do things while waiting.
Peel off base is the move if you’re impatient like me. You pop the color right off without any acetone time at all.
There are also those gel breakdown solutions (blanking on the name) that work faster than straight soaking. Filing down the polish first helps too.
Peel off base changed everything. Removal takes minutes now, without acetone or foils and no sitting around waiting.
Peel off base coat is great. My nails look perfect when the polish comes off, no acetone nightmare. Manicures don’t last as long though, so it’s more for vacation nails when you know you’ll want them gone anyway.
Fifteen minutes is all I need, as long as I file down to a thin layer first. Some brands give you more trouble, so switching might do more for you than soaking longer.
Leftover bits can usually be buffed off in seconds.
Fine to soak as long as your skin doesn’t have any cuts and you haven’t had bad reactions to acetone before. It does dry out your skin and nails though, so hit them with cuticle oil and moisturizer when you’re done.
You don’t have to warm things up, but it helps the acetone work faster and feels way nicer if your hands get irritated easily, like a warm towel over the foils.
Application makes a big difference for removal too.
Before a beach trip I got nervous about chipping, so I layered on two thick coats of color plus a chunky glitter accent. That set took nearly 40 minutes to budge, and the glitter nails were the worst.
My usual routine is three thin coats of a plain creme. Those lift in about 12 minutes with the same pure acetone and the same wrapping method. Keep each layer thin and save glitter or chrome for one accent nail.
I rub cuticle oil around the skin before wrapping. It keeps my fingertips from turning white and crackly, and it doesn’t slow the soak down at all.
