A useful nail routine doesn’t have to be daily. Mine is mostly maintenance by trigger. If polish chips or a hangnail shows up, I deal with it right then. I gave up on the nightly ritual idea years ago because I never stuck to it. The stuff I’ve stopped doing has mattered more than anything I added.
-
I don’t peel gel.
-
I don’t pick at lifting product.
-
I stopped using my nails to open cans or scrape labels off things.
All that small repeated damage was wrecking them, and skipping oil for a few days never did anything close.
I keep clean nippers and a file where I get ready, so a hangnail gets clipped and a rough edge gets smoothed before it tears further. Hand cream between appointments and dealing with problems when they come up is a fine routine. You already spend all day being careful with other people’s hands.
